Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

white papersWriting your very own white paper can be richly rewarding … and in more ways than one.

A well thought-out and marketed white paper can quickly make you an expert in your niche, attacting media attention and raising your credibility amongst your prosects.

Mike Sigers, via Bob Bly, has steered me to this new book that deals with white papers.

Writing White Papers: How to Capture Readers and Keep Them Engaged by Michael Stelzner is a new book that covers the white papers industry and how to succeed in it.

Is there a book in your blog’s archives?

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

penpaper1.jpgMy very good blog friend, Liz Strauss over at Successful Blog has written a piece that has hit a nerve with many.

In Write a Book? Assemble the One in Your Archives! Liz talks about “turning one kind of content into another” - primarily the posts in your blog’s archives into a book.

Liz, who has a long and rich history in publishing, gives us a quick10 steps into how to asseble your archives into a book.

Read it here and be sure to check out the comments as with any good post it takes the ideas even further.

PS Liz - I have tentatively scheduled March/April next year to visit the good ol’ U S of A. I expect at least a lunch date with ya. I’ve already got Loren Feldman of 1938Media to show me the ropes of New York - now I need one for my other two favorite destinations: Boston and New Orleans.

Tubetorial - Your Information Business Model (Part 2)

Sunday, September 24th, 2006

Tubetorial have the second part of episode four out in their 7 Steps to Creating and Selling Niche Information Products screencast tutorial.

Your Information Business Model (Part Two) is just over 9 minutes long and looks at taking trends and using keyword research to get to the bottom if a particular topic has enough interest to warrant an information product being developed and marketed.

The tutorial takes a quite negative view of the popular Yahoo Keyword Suggestion Tool and leans towards WordTracker as a more reliable tool. Following this is taking the reseach and using search engines and Amazon to see what’s currently in the market place, followed by conducting a simply survey using AdWords to get repondents in.

All in all, a fine insight into what one must do in regards to research before deciding on going all out writing and marketing an information product on a particualr topic.

Big News at ePubDaily (or why I’ve been slacking off)

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

Let’s just say things are about to change here.

Here’s the scoop: I am in the final stages of selling the intellectual assets of ePubDaily.

Yup, I have been developing a variety of info products on info products - ebooks, reports, screencasts and audio products. Hundreds of hours and many megabytes later …

And I’m offloading it all! Why?

An offer. Money. Too good to refuse. Lets sign the papers. Lets head to the bar and celebrate. But let me bank the cheque first. :)

And that is about it. There is a non-disclosure aspect to this deal as well as a no-competition clause, which I’m happy to abide by (well I have to, don’t I).

I still own the ePubDaily domain and the contents and I’ll still be posting here - just a bit differently.

ePubDaily will turn into more of a resource, a review center and link out to useful stuff regarding information publishing. It won’t be as focused on active news.

The plan is to bring you the most useful tools, sites, and resources from around the web.

Further to all of this, is my desire to start making my own info products (once again) - not related to info products. I like going through the cycle of researching an idea and all that goes with it. This deal lets me do that.

I have previously ghost-written 7 eBooks which did their owners quite well - some more so than others. Now it’s my turn.

But this new aspect deserves a new website/blog - I’ll let you know when.

BTW, have you visited my new(ish) blog - The Blog Columnist? Take a looksee and don’t foeget my weekly column over at The Blog Herald.

Hope the new direction at ePubDaily is to your liking.

How They Do It - #3

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006

Further to my recent post on the IDPF survey of eBook sales, I have started an 18-part series where I take a look at the 18 e-publishers individually (one every week) to get an idea of how they market their digital products.

I’ll be looking at these websites from a purely buyers perspective with my e-publisher’s eye scanning for little bits we can and can not do to improve our publishing businesses.

In part 3 of this series I take a look at Ellora’s Cave Publishing.

This Week at ePublishingDaily

Sunday, September 10th, 2006

It’s been a strange old week for me, not so much here but at my other blogs and from outside events.

Firstly, Monday saw the tragic news of Steve Irwin, the crocodile hunter, who sadly passed away. Steve was one of the most well known Aussies (I am an Aussie) around the world and I think it staggered everyone by how much his death affected many.

To top it all off, as I’m writing this, I have just learned of another well-known Australian passing away in tragic circumstances. Peter Brock may not be known around the world but in Australia he was a legend. He died on Friday in a rally car accident. Peter Brock was the embodiment of motor racing in Australia for more than three decades. He had done it all and as a youngster I vividly remember watching him win race after race - hence his “Peter Perfect” title.

What a dreadful week all round … and then next week we have the 5 year anniversay of September 11.
